Create a Structure
The structure is the hierarchy within your evaluation instrument. It can be set to define multiple levels of the tool, and as an administrator, you can give a name by which the level will be identified. (Example: Domain/Element/Competency)
To use the Structure Designer wizard, follow these steps.
- From the Observation tab, select Manage frameworks.
- From the Structures tab to the right of the screen, click Create structure.
- Enter the structure name and description.
- Define the levels of the structure.
- Enter a number and click Add Level to add that number of levels.
- Click the small (x) icon to remove a level.
- Click Next.
- Enter names for the first (top) level.
- Enter a number and click Add ... for additional entries at this level.
- Click the small x icon to remove entries from this level.
- Use the arrows to move an entry up or down in the structure of this level.
- For each top-level entry, click the plus [+] icon to set its details and add sub-levels.
- Enter a description and abbreviation and select a color for the entry. Each major section of the observation form (and their sub-levels) will be indicated to the observer and observee by the color selected here. (Click the pencil icon to access an advanced text editor.)
- Click Align to Competency to align competencies to the current level. Search for and select the desired competency(ies), then click Done. (If courses are aligned to the same competency, a light bulb icon will appear for the user.)
- If the structure supports levels below the current level, add sub-levels as needed by clicking Add ....
- Enter sub-level name, description, abbreviation, and correlations as appropriate. (Click the pencil icon to access an advanced text editor.)
- Continue creating levels, sub-levels, and elements (steps 6-11) until the desired structure is complete, then click Next.
- Review the structure that has been defined. Click Prev to return to a screen to make changes. When the structure appears correct, click Finish. You will be returned to the Structures tab.
