PD User Roles and Functions
These roles are specific to the Professional Learning application.
PD Administrator Roles
These roles have access to the administrative functions of the Professional Learning application. They also can create courses outside of the approval workflow.
- PD Super User: This is a district-level role with administrator access to all super user functions.
- Create and manage offices

- May have user account rights to manage transcripts, add learners to courses, and run ad hoc reports
- Select administrative rights, such as those within Targeted Announcements and Staff Dashboards, can be issued via the UI Manager; check with your PowerSchool representative
- PD Office Administrator: This is an office-level role with administrator access for the assigned office only.
- Create and manage courses

Course Creation Roles
These roles support the course approval workflow and are applicable when an approval process is required for course creation.
- Course Requester - This is an office-level role responsible for creating courses and corresponding sections. If an approval process is enforced, a submission by a course requester is sent to the course reviewer.
- Course Reviewer - This is an office-level role responsible for the first level(s) of review of submitted courses and sections. This role is applicable only when a multi-tier review process is required; otherwise, review and approval goes directly to the final approver.
- Final Approver - This is an office-level role responsible for the final review and approval so submitted courses and sections become visible in the catalog.
Course Facilitation Roles
These roles support the general operation of courses and PLCs.
Course Instructor: This role is responsible for facilitating an instructor-led course section within the system. (This may or may not be the person actually teaching the course.)

- PLC Moderator: This role is responsible for facilitating a PLC section.

- Moderate discussions
- Course Participant: This role represents the learner. Anyone who has been given access to a course catalog can assume the role of course participant.
- Search and register for courses
- Withdraw from courses
- Participate in discussions
- Review transcripts
A course instructor must have a system login to be assigned to this role. If an outside instructor is teaching the course, an internal individual should be designated to manage these functions for each section.
PD Playlist Roles
These roles support the creation, management, and operation of PD playlists.
- PD Playlist Moderator: This role is responsible for creating and managing PD playlists.
- Add participants
- Add courses
- Manage notifications
- Moderate the discussion
- PD Playlist Curator: This role can add or remove participants for their assigned PD playlist. All other functions are read-only.
- PD Playlist Credit Approver: This role is responsible for reviewing and approving PD playlist credit requests. This role can give final approval so the PD playlist becomes visible in the catalog.
- PD Playlist Participant: This role represents the learner. Anyone assigned to a PD playlist will assume the role of PD playlist participant.

Badging Roles
These roles support the creation, management, and earning of badges.
- PD Badge Super User: This role is responsible for setting the badge issuer information and assigning role permissions for the organization. Users with this role can also perform all functions of a PD badge creator.
- PD Badge Creator: This role is responsible for creating and managing badges. This role also has the responsibility to approve badge submissions for manual badges they create.
- PD Badge Earner: This role represents the learner. Anyone given access to the Badge Library assumes the role of PD badge earner.
